FOR FRED SMITH-"THE LONG OBEDIENCE"

A highlight for me was a commission I received from Josh Kwan, president of THE GATHERING. He had asked me to create a sculpture for the founder of The Gathering, Fred Smith. I was both honored and hugely challenged to visually portray this very interesting man.

The title, THE LONG OBEDIENCE, is based on a quote by Nietzsche, “The essential thing ‘in heaven and earth’ is that there should be a long obedience in the same direction; there thereby results, and has always resulted in the long run, something which has made life worth living.”
